Renewable Energy Technologies
In order to meet the market requirements, in the academic year 2010/2011 at the Faculty of Production Engineering of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, the macro-course of Renewable Energy Technologies was launched.
For many years, the role of renewable energy sources in European energy policy has increased. It is an expression of the pursuit of an environmentally friendly economy model. Climate threats resulting from the growing global emissions of carbon dioxide mean that, among others, the European Commission introduces regulations aimed at reducing this type of risk.
The implementation of these directives required the intensification of the implementation of installations based on renewable energy sources (RES). Therefore, it is necessary to prepare engineering staff specializing in these issues. The current fields of study (including energy, environmental engineering, environmental protection) conducted at technical or agricultural universities do not fully prepare the graduate for the implementation of the EU policy in the field of renewable energy sector development. And although the subjects mentioned above are sometimes subject to renewable energy sources, the issues discussed there are sometimes treated fragmentarily. None of the fields of study provides for comprehensive education, in the full range of content on RES, from the assessment of the potential through the production or acquisition of an energy carrier and its preparation for direct use, to the problems of operating machinery and equipment.
The aim of education in the field of renewable energy technologies is to prepare specialists for the constantly developing infrastructure of the renewable energy sector and the local energy market.
Studies in the field of Renewable Energy Technologies are in the field of engineering and technical sciences and are interdisciplinary in nature with the leading discipline mechanical engineering and complementary disciplines: environmental engineering, mining and energy as well as civil engineering and transport.
Thanks to thorough knowledge in the field of technical sciences with the extension of horizons to legal and organizational issues, the student is prepared to design devices and installations and their rational implementation in the field of renewable energy technology. After the age of 7 of the semester studies, the graduate obtains the professional title of engineer.
Qualification
Qualification for first-cycle studies is based on the results obtained in the matriculation examination in one of the three subjects math or chemistry or physics.
Qualification for second-cycle studies is based on recognition of the convergence of learning outcomes obtained by graduates of the first-cycle studies, taking into account the average grade.
Renewable Energy Technologies is an interdisciplinary course combining issues related to energy and environmental engineering. It is a response to the needs of the market and the economy regarding the need to develop energy in Poland that uses unconventional, renewable energy sources.
Professional prospects:
Interdisciplinary education enables graduates to work in :
- enterprises involved in the production and trading of energy on local markets;
- government and local government administration;
- advising on positions related to energy issues;
- the scope of energy audits (has the appropriate authorizations).
- in the field of drawing up building energy performance certificates (registration of persons authorized to prepare the certificates is carried out by the Ministry of Development)
- RES installer certificate (certification is carried out by the Office of Technical Inspection).
1st DEGREE STUDIES
Education of a graduate in the field of study Renewable Energy Technologies meets the global trends and the policy of the European Union in the field of the energy sector, the strategic goal of which is to protect the climate through a radical increase in the role of renewable energy sources. A graduate of the first degree of studies, based on thorough knowledge in the field of engineering and technical sciences extended by natural, economic and organizational issues related to the broadly understood energy industry, is prepared to design devices and installations and solve problems of rational implementation of renewable energy technologies. The graduate is competent to conduct the production, distribution, assembly and operation of devices using renewable energy sources. It can independently prepare energy audits of buildings. Interdisciplinary education allows you to start your own business, as well as in enterprises dealing with energy production and trading on local markets. The graduate is also prepared to work in local government administration bodies and to advise on positions related to energy issues.
A graduate knows a foreign language at the B2 level of proficiency in the European System for the Description of Language Education of the Council of Europe and has the ability to use a specialist language in the field of education. The graduate is prepared to undertake second-cycle studies (level 7 of the Polish Qualification Framework).
2nd DEGREE STUDIES
Graduate of the second degree of studies in the field of Renewable Energy Technologies has knowledge and skills in the field of creating energy systems that integrate traditional technologies with renewable energy technologies. He knows the methods of researching processes in renewable energy devices and the methods of analyzing the effects of exploitation. It is prepared for the modernization of processes and devices. He can balance local energy resources, select appropriate techniques and technologies for their acquisition. Has the ability to forecast energy demand and program the development of local energy infrastructure, including the cooperation of local installations with the energy system. The ability to plan and manage energy at the local level gives the graduate the opportunity to participate in the creation of structures of autonomous energy areas and energy clusters. He is also capable of establishing and managing a company in the renewable energy technology sector.
The global perspective on energy economy strengthens the graduate’s chance for professional development in central administration bodies. Thanks to the knowledge of the directions and mechanisms of shaping the European Union legislation in the field of energy, the graduate can also fulfill himself professionally in international structures. Second degree education Renewable Energy Technologies allows you to take up the path of scientific development in the form of third-cycle (doctoral) studies in this field.
A graduate knows a foreign language at the B2 level of proficiency in the European System for the Description of Language Education of the Council of Europe and has the ability to use a specialist language in the field of education.
